'Trivia'

'Zebra's first fans were college students who were listening to their music on local college radio stations. They became especially popular on the FM radio station WBAB in Long Island, New York. The band was so thankful for the support of this station and its listeners, that they named one of their albums, WBAB Homegrown Album, in their honor.'

'About the Artist'

Zebra first became a musical group in the mid-1970s when Randy Jackson, Felix Hanemann and Guy Gelso bonded over their love of hard rock. They were one of the first bands to incorporate a heavy metal sound into the hard rock scene, and it was definitely well-received. The band got its start by performing spot-on covers of Led Zeppelin songs. Their performances of Tell Me What You Want and Who's Behind The Door were especially popular and became a part of their first EP. The success of their first musical project and the reaction from fans convinced the band that they should leave New Orleans and try their luck in New York City. They had instant success in Long Island, NY, landing a record deal with Atlantic Records. They compiled an album of covers and original music that included songs like The La La Song, Bears and Free. They became a big hit with local college students and even received some air time from local radio stations. They were also included on a live recordings album put out by WBAB in Long Island. The band performed during their Homegrown Hour program and became a fan favorite. Throughout the 1980s the band became local rock icons. But due to a dispute with Atlantic Records, the early 1990s were rocky for the group. While they were waiting for the dispute to be settled, the members pursued solo gigs and projects with other artists. But in 1997, the group reunited and began recording again. The product of those recording sessions was their album, Zebra IV, that hit shelves in 2003.

They continued their success with a performance at the House of Blues in New Orleans that was recorded for a DVD series. The group was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2010 and The Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2012.
