Yiruma is a South Korean pianist and composer who plays a musical style that typically falls into the contemporary classical or new-age genre. He plays his vibrant, elegant melodies to sold-out crowds across the globe and his repertoire includes original scores, contemporary Korean and American hits, with unique renditions of secular ballads. 'About Yiruma'

Yiruma was born February 15, 1978, with the name Lee Ruma, but is better known by his stage name. He began playing piano at the age of five and, at the age of 10, his family moved him to London so he could study at the Purcell School of Music. In 1996, he appeared on the album The Musicians of Purcell. He graduated from the Purcell School of Music in 1997. In 2000, Yiruma received a major in Composition from King’s College, London.

While still in college, Yiruma released his first album, Love Scene, and also toured Europe. He released his album First Love in 2001, which features one of his most popular hits, “River Flows in You.” In addition to the popularity of “River Flows in You,” Yiruma was the first Korean artist to receive an invitation to the MIDEM in Cannes, France; he did perform at the festival.

His next album, From the Yellow Room, had pre-order sales of more than 30,000 copies. After multiple albums, Yiruma took a break from recording and touring to enlist in the Korean military. When he resumed touring, he performed in cities across Korea with his Yiruma Come Back Tour. Since his military time, he has released many albums, including Healing Piano, Blind Film, Atmosfera – Yiruma Special Album and Piano, among others. Yiruma has appeared on multiple compilations.

Yiruma held dual citizenship in South Korea and England until 2006 when he gave up his UK citizenship to serve in the South Korean Navy.

In addition to being a world-renowned pianist, Yiruma is also a DJ. On January 1, 2009, he started at KBS1FM producing “Yiruma’s Music from All Around the World.”
