The WWE, an acronym for World Wrestling Entertainment, is the world’s premier professional wresting league. As one of the most popular sports in the United States and beyond, WWE offers fans a variety of live events and entertainment products. Because of the way the WWE combines athleticism with entertainment, the sport continues to be a nostalgic pastime for adults and a rousing new experience for children. The WWE is currently the largest professional wrestling federation in the world, and some of the programs the federations airs include
SmackDown
and
Raw
. Some of the most iconic stars to play in WWE events include The Undertaker and John Cena. You can view the action live, though, for the ultimate fan experience. Get your WWW Live tickets at StubHub.
Before changing its name to WWE, the group was known as the World Wrestling Federation, or WWF for short. In 2002, the name was officially switched to WWE. After the business was purchased in 1982 from his father, business tycoon Vince McMahan launched an entire rebrand of the company. What resulted was a cultlike following of fans. Countless wrestling superstars have made a name for themselves in the WWE ring, including
Hulk Hogan
, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Andre the Giant and many more. McMahan’s family-run empire created one of the most entertaining, family-friendly sports fans have ever enjoyed. One of McMahan’s biggest successes was partnering with the music network MTV, creating a culture of die-hard rock and roll fans that exists to this day.
Due in part to the brand’s lengthy history, the WWE boasts a strong highlight reel of notable moments and memorable matches. WrestleMania 3 hosted one of the sport’s biggest shake-ups when Hulk Hogan stripped Andre the Giant of his undefeated record. WrestleMania 17 in 2001 was another major moment for the brand. Not only did owner Vince McMahan get in the ring to wrestle his son Shane, but the event also featured a matchup between well-respected heavyweights Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Steve Austin bested The Rock during a last-minute turn of events, making it one of the most memorable matches in franchise history. Most recently, the 2011 Money in the Bank competition ended with an unanticipated victory for CM Punk, who was matched against iconic WWE athlete
John Cena
.
Currently, WWE events are aired in 150 countries, and roughly 320 events are held each year. While WWE wrestling matches were originally structured and serious, they have evolved to include an entertaining array of actors, special effects and story lines. Along with these live wresting shows, the brand has expanded to include reality shows, merchandise, songs, videos and more.
If WWE Live is an event you are eager to experience, there are many other high-action events you should consider adding to your calendar.
Monster Jam
is a live motor sport event that pairs massive trucks with huge ramps and gravity-defying stunts. Similarly,
Nitro Circus
blends action sports with circus stunts, creating an action sports collective with dirt bikes, BASE jumping, shenanigans and more.
