''The World of Outlaws is one of the premier dirt racing series in the world. Featuring purpose-built open-wheel race cars, the series is famous for its distinctive, powerful vehicle designs. Former midget racer Ted Johnson organized the inaugural season in 1978. The slate of 41 initial events featured racing luminaries such as Bobby Allen, Doug Wolfgang, Jack Hewitt and more. Steve Kinser, the son of Hall-of-Famer Bob Kinser, won consecutive World of Outlaws championships in the first two seasons. He would go on to dominate the dirt racing series until 1994 (only Bobby Davis, Jr. and Sammy Swindell interrupted his streaks during this time) and still continued to win championships until 2005. The World of Outlaws has served as the home of numerous motorsports and sprint car Hall of Famers. You can catch the thrill of dirt racing action with World of Outlaws tickets at StubHub.'
'The World of Outlaws sprint cars feature a 410-cubic-inch fuel injection engine that generates approximately 900 horsepower. The cars must weigh at least 1,400 pounds with the driver inside. The most distinctive aspect of the vehicle is the large wing-like structure that keeps the car firmly planted on the ground during turns. The vehicles lack starters, so push trucks are required to get them into gear.'
'The Late Models Series features the latest full-bodied, purpose-built vehicles with no particular cubic inch limit on the aluminum-head engines. However, most teams use 400- to 430-cubic inch engines that generate more than 800 horsepower. Resembling popular streetcar makes, the vehicles typically weigh 2,350 pounds and run on racing gasoline. The Late Models Series is distinct from the Sprint Car Series, so you would need to purchase tickets separately to the races.'
'A typical night of Outlaws' racing begins with the hot laps — group practice sessions to prepare for the upcoming races. This is followed by the qualifying races to determine the starting order in the heat races. Heats are a series of eight to 12 lap races; the top racers advance to the feature race, and the bottom racers move on to the last chance showdown in a double-elimination format. The last chance showdown is literally the racers’ last chance to transfer back to the feature race, which determines the overall champion. The size of the dirt track can range widely between a 1/4-mile and a 5/8-mile length. The length of the track determines the number of laps run.'
'The World of Outlaws 2020 Sprint Car Series begins with the Dirtcar Nationals on Feb. 7 and concludes with the Can-Am World Finals between Nov. 5 and Nov. 7 in Concord, N.C. The Late Models Series begins earlier in January with the Battle at the Border. Altogether, there are more than 100 sprint car and late model events throughout the season held all around the United States.'

The results of the races count toward the drivers’ overall series standings. The top racers compete at the Can-Am World Finals at the
Charlotte Motor Speedway
, but the driver with the most points at the end of the season is declared the champion.
''In 2019, Brad Sweet won his first-ever World of Outlaws Sprint Series championship. He triumphed over 10-time champion and sprint car legend Donny Schatz by a mere four points, which was the closest margin in the history of the series. Sweet came into the Can-Am World Finals with a two-point lead. David Gravel won the race, but Sweet and Schatz finished in second and third, respectively. Brandon Sheppard was the 2019 Late Models Series champion. He had wrapped up the title before even entering the Can-Am World Finals.'
