The Wisconsin Herd is the primary developmental program and minor league equivalent for the
Milwaukee Bucks
. Formerly known as the NBA Development League, the G League serves as an important stepping stone and farm system for the highest tier of professional basketball. The Bucks had never seriously been associated with a development team except for a brief agreement with the Tulsa 66ers for the 2006-2007 season. That changed in 2017 when the Milwaukee front office announced that it had chosen Oshkosh as the site of its new program to foster talent and develop prospects. In its first ever season, the Herd finished at fifth place in the division with a 21-29 record. Xavier Munford and James Young became early standout players for the team. The Herd's state-of-the-art home, Menominee Nation Arena, is as new as the team itself. If you want to catch an exciting G League matchup, purchase Wisconsin Herd tickets at StubHub.
''NBA G League rosters are composed of a complicated mixture of local tryout players, draft picks, free agents and so-called affiliate players who narrowly missed the NBA roster. Certain designated players on the roster can be called up to or sent down from the NBA affiliate. For example, if a player is under a two-way contract, then he can remain up to 45 days with the Bucks whenever necessary. For the remainder of the season, he will play for the Herd. NBA teams can also assign players with no more than three years of experience to the G league team an unlimited number of times. More than 100 players are typically assigned every year.'
'The Wisconsin Herd finished last place in the Central Division with a record of 12-38. Though it did not make the playoffs, the Herd did have some standout performances. Christian Wood led all scorers with 29.3 points and 14.1 rebounds per game in 28 starts. James Young added 18.9 points per game in 18 starts.'

The 2019-2020 regular season takes place between Nov. 8 and March 28. The Wisconsin Herd plays four games each against its main division foes: the
Grand Rapids Drive
, the
Windy City Bulls
, the
Fort Wayne Mad Ants
and the
Canton Charge
. It also plays three games each against most other conference foes. Following the end of the regular season, the G League playoffs will begin no earlier than March 31. Milwaukee would need to finish in the top six of the conference standings to make the playoffs.
''Wisconsin is still relatively new to the league, but in that short time it has managed to cultivate an interesting series with its nearby division foe, the Windy City Bulls. Their two parent organizations, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Chicago Bulls, are divisional foes in the NBA.'
'Chase Buford became the second head coach in Wisconsin’s history on July 29, 2019. Buford got his start as a regional scout for the Atlanta Hawks in 2012 and then served as the coordinator of player development with the Chicago Bulls between 2015 and 2017. His success earned him an assistant coaching position with the Erie BayHawks in the 2017-2018 season and the Delaware Blue Coats in the 2018-2019 season. Wisconsin is his first major experience as head coach of a basketball program.'
