Pittsburgh Penguins

of the NHL. Though the Penguins technically reside in Wilkes-Barre, they have the distinction — unique in American sports — of representing two towns, both in northern Pennsylvania. The team was established by Pittsburgh in 1999 after the purchase of a defunct Canadian franchise that had been dormant for several years. The Penguins opened the inaugural season with a 4-2 victory over the Kentucky Thoroughblades. In its second season, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton went all the way to the Calder Cup final, losing to the Saint Johns Flames in six games.
