Best known for her standup, Whitney Cummings also created two sitcoms in 2011,
2 Broke Girls
and
Whitney
. She starred in the latter as a fictionized version of herself. However, it was far from her first time on stage. Several years into her career, she began regularly appearing as a guest on
Chelsea Lately
. Even though she jumped headfirst into TV projects, Whitney hasn't forgotten standup. Her most recent special,
Can I Touch It?
, premiered on July 2019 on Netflix.
Comedienne Whitney Cummings has contributed to the world of comedy that it seems unfair to just point out just her standup comedy or acting. She's been a writer, producer, director and showrunner and has also appeared on others' shows. She's been so successful that it's hard to believe she didn't pass the showcase when she auditioned for Last Comic Standing in San Francisco. Fortunately, Cummings didn't give up. She continued appearing in movies, although it may have been the eight years she spent as a guest on Chelsea Lately that helped propel her into stardom. By 2008, Entertainment Weekly had named Cummings one of 12 Rising Stars of Comedy. Her upward momentum continued as she was the comedy roaster on three Comedy Central Roasts: Joan Rivers, David Hasselhoff and Donald Trump. During this time, she kicked off her first special and joined
Denis Leary
on the
Rescue Me Comedy Tour
. By the time Cummings had created
Whitney
and
2 Broke Girls
, she was an unstoppable force in comedy. She moved on to directing in 2017 with independent film
The Female Brain
. Then, Cummings became one of the head writers and the executive producer of the
Roseanne
reboot in 2018.
If you want to see Whitney perform standup live and in person, you can buy Whitney Cummings tickets at StubHub.
The comedienne will be performing at
The Comedy Store
in LA for from the middle to the end of October. Tickets to these performances include more than one comedian and lineups are subject to change.
While Cummings plans to tour after her week at The Comedy Store, she has not yet announced dates or locations. She recently posted on Instagram, asking fans to suggest cities she should visit on her tour.
In Whitney's most recent special for Netflix, she created a sex robot of herself and discussed how technology is changing humanity. Cummings wanted to do something that she hadn't done before because traditional topics such as sex and swearing were no longer considered edgy. Given this, the subject of any upcoming standup performances may be entirely different from any of Whitney Cummings' previous performances.
Whitney's four comedy specials are
Money Shot
,
I Love You
,
I'm Your Girlfriend
and
Can I Touch It?
The first two debuted on Comedy Central while the more recent specials were produced by HBO and Netflix, respectively.
In 2017, Cumming released a memoir titled I'm Fine...And Other Lies about her struggles with anxiety and a co-dependency disorder, which was well-received by readers. She also toured to promote her book. More recently she appeared on
The Late Late Show with James Corden.
