''Hokie is a term created by a Virginia Tech student during a contest in 1896 to find the university's new cheer to go with its name change. O.M. Stull said hokie was an attention-getter in his cheer. Hokie quickly caught on as a nickname for all of the university's sports teams as well as those loyal to those teams. Thus, a hokie is someone who is a loyal fan of Virginia Tech.'

Seats are often completely filled, which makes for exciting experiences while supporting your favorite team. The school spent $2.7 million on the construction of the Cassell Coliseum. Construction began in 1961 and was finished in 1964. Aside from basketball games, the venue hosts presidential inaugurations, speeches, tournaments and concerts.'
