'Virginia Cavaliers Baseball Tickets'

'The first baseball team at the University of Virginia played all the way back in 1889. This inaugural team put together a perfect season, defeating all seven of the opponents they faced that year. While things looked promising for Cavaliers baseball, it would be nearly 100 seasons before they would ever reach postseason play. It wasn't until 1972 that UVA took the next step and even then they only made three postseason appearances in the 1900s. However, the turn of the millennium saw unprecedented success for Cavaliers baseball. Under head coach Brian O'Connor, Virginia made the postseason every year between 2004 and 2017 including four trips to Omaha for the College World Series. In addition to postseason appearances, the Cavaliers have seen a remarkable amount of individual success including multiple ACC Coach and Player of the Year awards. 'Who is the head coach for the Virginia Cavaliers baseball team?'

'

Brian O'Connor became the head coach for the Virginia Cavaliers just before the 2004 season. While it's common for coaches to get off to a slow start when they first take over a program, O'Connor immediately won an impressive 44 games and guided the Cavaliers to the postseason, finishing second in the ACC. O'Connor had already experienced success as a pitching coach and recruiting director at

Notre Dame.

While at Notre Dame with the Fighting Irish, Coach O'Connor helped to develop 17 eventual MLB pitchers including 13 who would be picked in the MLB draft. O'Connor's tenure as Virginia's head coach has seen the Cavaliers reach an unmatched level of success. Aside from guiding the Cavs to their only College World Series title in 2015, O'Connor has taken his team to the postseason 14 straight seasons, won seven NCAA regional championships, two ACC championships and put up an incredible record of 700-288-2. Under O'Connor's leadership, UVA was named the Program of the Decade and he was named Coach of the Decade by D1baseball.com.

'Where do the Virginia Cavaliers play baseball?'

'First opened in February of 2002, Ted Davenport Field at Disharoon Park in Charlottesville, Va., is home to the UVA Cavaliers. With 5500 seats, the venue is the third-largest stadium in the ACC. The recent success of the Cavaliers baseball program has brought with it an increasing enthusiasm for fans, leading to an additional 1000 seats added during an expansion in 2018. The stadium is very modern in its design with all the seating other than the outfield bleachers under the shade of an open concourse. Virginia's loyal fan base always shows up to support their team at home games and the stands are always an enjoyable and family-friendly experience.'

'Are there any Virginia Cavaliers alumni in Major League Baseball?'

'

The University of Virginia has an impressive history of putting players in the Big Leagues. While the program boasts several all-time players who have made it to MLB, 21 of them have played under current coach Brian O'Connor. 13 players who played their college ball at Virginia appeared on Major League rosters in 2019. Most notably, infielder Ryan Zimmerman and relief pitcher Sean Doolittle were key contributors to the

Washington Nationals

World Series championship team.

'

'Do the Virginia Cavaliers have any rivals in baseball?'

'

One of the best parts about college athletics is the rivalries. The Cavaliers have multiple baseball rivalries based on a battle for state dominance and conference affiliation. Both Virginia and the

North Carolina Tar Heels

are members of the ACC and have a long-standing rivalry. UVA and the

Virginia Tech Hokies

are both members of the ACC and face each other every season in the Commonwealth Clash. Finally, the Cavaliers square off against the

VCU Rams

every season for a rivalry pair-up known as the Duel at the Diamond.
