'The Utica Comets franchise has long been one of the pillars of minor league and developmental hockey. Before it came to the city of Utica, the team was founded in 1932 as the Quebec Beavers. Three years later, it relocated to Springfield, Ill., and adopted the nickname of the Indians. Except for a brief stint in Syracuse between 1951 and 1954, the franchise remained in Springfield up until 1994. For the next two decades it moved between Worcester, Mass., and Peoria, Ill. The franchise settled in the city of Utica for the 2013 to 2014 season. It was the second AHL team to ever play in Utica. The first was the Devils, an affiliate of New Jersey, between 1987 and 1993. In their best season, the Utica Comets won the 2015 conference championship with 103 points. After retiring as a player, Cull served as an assistant coach twice for the Syracuse Crunch: first between 2006 and 2010 and again between 2013 and 2017.
