''The baseball program at the University of Southern California started in 1889. In the 130 years since then, no other program has experienced the sort of success that USC has, with well over 2,600 wins, 38 conference titles and 12 College World Series titles. While the USC football team often gets more national attention, it is the baseball team that has a longer history of success at the school. Of those 12 national championships, five of them were won in consecutive seasons between 1970 and 1974. With a long history of winning championships and a resume of putting some of the greatest names in the history of Major League Baseball in the big leagues, USC Baseball has long been regarded as one of the greatest programs in the nation. 'Dedeaux Field is the home of the USC Trojans. The field, named after legendary Trojans head coach Rod Dedeaux opened in 1974 in historic fashion when USC pitcher Russ McQueen threw a no-hitter in the first game ever played there. Today the natural grass field has expanded seating capacity to an impressive 2,500, allowing fans to enjoy the frequent tributes to past USC baseball legends. Dedeaux isn't the only baseball icon memorialized at the stadium. One step into the stadium puts you on Mark McGwire Way. Located on the USC Campus, Dedeaux Field is just a few miles from downtown Los Angeles.'
'The Trojans have sent more players to Major League baseball than any other school with an impressive 114 players that have made it to The Show. Trojans’ baseball alumni boast 29 World Series appearances, 67 All-Star appearances, three Hall of Famers, nine Cy Young Awards and one American League MVP. Some of those names include legendary pitcher Randy Johnson, first baseman Mark McGwire and Cy Young Award Winner Barry Zito.'

On June 14, 2019, Jason Gill was named head baseball coach for the USC Trojans. Coach Gill brings a plethora of coaching experience to USC with him after being the head coach at
Loyola Marymount
for 11 seasons. During his time there, Gill posted a 322–286–1 overall record and led the Loyola Marymount Lions to the final round of the Los Angeles Regionals of the College World Series. Gill also played in the College World Series in 1994 as a member of the Cal State Fullerton team. Gill's Lions saw 25 players selected in the MLB draft and three players make it onto Major League rosters during his nine seasons at Loyola. The USC program hasn't made a postseason appearance since 2015, but Jason Gill might be able to restore their luster.

Two things are at the heart of most collegiate sports rivalries: conferences and geographical proximity. Both of those factors come into play when considering USC's top rival, the
UCLA Bruins
. Not only do both schools play in the PAC-12 Conference, but they are crosstown rivals, both calling Los Angeles home. Each year, USC and UCLA compete in what is known as the Crosstown Cup, which sees each school not only compete against its own opponents but against each other to see who is better overall. One of the sports included in the crosstown rivalry is baseball, which USC leads in head-to-head matchups over UCLA by an impressive 263–143 margin. The schools will play four times in the 2020 season on March 8 and May 21–23.
