Tivoli Theatre
The Tivoli Theatre, or the Tivoli as it's often called, is a historic venue that had its first show in 1921. Named after the city with the same name in Italy, it has a European design scheme with cream tiles and beige terra-cotta bricks. While it has nods to the past in terms of style, it was built as one of the first air-conditioned buildings in the U.S. Over its many decades of operation, the Tivoli has screened films, held classical performances and hosted special events. Since 1976, it has been owned by the city of Chattanooga, and a two-year renovation projection from 1987 to 1989 resulted in a larger, more accommodating facility. Modern performers such as
Melissa Etheridge
and
Blue October
often stop here for tours. If you'd like to catch a performance at the Tivoli Theatre in Chattanooga, pick up your tickets at StubHub.
The orchestra section seats 1,012 guests. There are upper boxes, which can accommodate 48, as well as a loge that can seat 78. Each of the upper and lower balconies can seat 312 patrons. If a Tivoli Theatre event does not call for an orchestra to be in the pit, an additional 104 people can fit. Overall, more than 1800 can enjoy a performance together.
Tivoli Theatre ticket holders can park on the street or in any of the Republic Parking lots. Metered street parking requires payment between 8 am and 6 pm, Monday - Saturday. The parking lots can be entered on Chestnut Street and on McCallie Avenue.
Downtown Chattanooga has an extensive public transit system. The free electric shuttle runs up and down Market and Broad Streets, so you might want to take this and walk the few blocks to the theater. There are a few CARTA bus routes - the #4 and the #15 - that can take you close to the Tivoli as well.
The theater has a full bar available to its patrons. Wine, beer, cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks can be purchased.
The Tivoli Theater has a number of wheelchair-accessible seats in the outer aisles in select rows of the orchestra section. Some of the boxes can also accommodate wheelchairs. If any guest is hearing impaired, he or she can request for an Infrared Assistive Listening System from the Box Office.
