Composer Tim Janis works well both alone and with others. He counts luminaries such as Sir Paul McCartney and Billy Joel among his collaborators and has conducted several orchestras, including the Czech National Symphony and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. His solo compositions are often relaxing, and they reflect on the beauty of nature and the world around us. He also works on many Christmas-related pieces; the best known of these pieces is perhaps The American Christmas Carol, which he performed in the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York City. Tim Janis tour dates usually include a Christmas performance at Carnegie Hall, the proceeds of which go to one of Tim's many philanthropic ventures.
Tim was born in Maine and knew from an early age that he wanted to be a musician. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1991 with a degree in composition and has worked ever since, beginning with Ghost Town in 1992. Famous movie score composers such as John Williams and Hans Zimmer are major influences on his career, but he has found his own style.
In addition to his annual Carnegie Hall concerts, Tim Janis has racked up several other accomplishments in his career. He is a prolific composer who has released over 15 pieces, including A Thousand Summers and Across Two Oceans. More than 10 of his releases placed on the Billboard charts. His music features in several television specials, most notably Beautiful America and Coastal America, narrated by actor George Clooney, and The American Christmas Carol, narrated by James Earl Jones.
Tim Janis believes that music is more than simple entertainment, and that it has healing powers and the ability to spread peace. He released Music of Hope in 2001, with proceeds going toward the American Cancer Society. The CD reached No.1 on the Billboard Classical chart, and its success inspired Tim to continue his charitable work. His Music with a Mission project seeks to draw attention to causes he believes in. For example, he brought an African all-female choir whose members were all HIV positive to the United States to highlight the African AIDS crisis. He has also worked on ways to improve education in Africa and to help communication with China.
Tim created Celebrate America in 2008 to help students and teachers across the United States perform on television. He also worked on the Music in our Schools project to help inspire elementary school children to work with music.
People who have picked up Tim Janis tickets may also enjoy other new age composers, such as American pianists Kevin Kern or David Lanz.
