Australian DJ Thomas Jack coined the term tropical house circa 2013 to describe his laid-back, summery music. This unique subgenre of electronic dance music sets Jack apart among the EDM crowd, and his thoughtful, well-conceived compositions inspire listeners to revel and move.

Thomas Jack's background

Thomas Jack grew up on a dairy farm in rural Australia. He became interested in mastering dance music production by playing the PlayStation game eJay. Early efforts in the direction of a professional music career included the 2013 launch of the podcast Tropical House.

Jack earned early recognition on the EDM scene with his singles Symphony and The Final Speech, as well as remixes of songs by the pop-rock outfit OneRepublic and the Icelandic indie-folk band Of Monsters and Men.

In 2015, Thomas Jack released the single Rivers, featuring Norwegian singers Nico & Vinz. The summer anthem marked a breakout for Jack, charting in Belgium, Holland and Norway. In the U.S., it reached No. 44 on both the Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs chart and Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart. Rivers was featured on the three-disc compilation album Party Fun 2016, as well as Pure Chilled House.

Jack spent most of the ensuing year on tour with other EDM artists, including Hook n Sling, Michael Woods and Anna Lunoe. He also headlined the Tropical Express Tour with support from Felix Jaehn, Bag Raiders and Bixel Boys. The tour was billed as the first ever all-tropical house tour and took Jack's sound to Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C.
