The Wellmont Theater
'
Today, you can catch popular music acts and comedy shows at The Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey, but that's not how this venue got its start. The theater opened in the 1920s during the time when vaudeville was popular and silent movies were commonplace, and both forms of entertainment were available at The Wellmont. As the film industry took off, this venue became a three-screen movie house. It wasn't until 2003 that The Wellmont hosted its first concert. Since its conversion to a music venue, the theater has welcomed top acts like
Joan Baez
,
Jim Gaffigan
,
Meat Loaf
and
Bush

''The seating arrangement at The Wellmont Theater changes frequently. Some patrons consider the seats in Tier 1 to be the very best in the house, but that section isn't offered as reserved seating for every event. Many shows at the theater are general admission, and the main floor is often standing room only. Being on the main floor during such an event may give you the opportunity to get close to the stage. However, if you prefer the idea of sitting down, opt for a balcony seat. Although this area, too, may be general admission, you'll get to select a chair from which to enjoy the show.'
'You can take New Jersey Transit's Montclair-Boonton line to a show at the Wellmont. Get off the train at the Walnut Street station or the Bay Street station. The DeCamp No. 33, the Decamp No. 66R and the New Jersey Transit No. 11 buses all make stops near the venue as well.'
'Patrons can park for free at Lackawanna Plaza, or they can find on-street parking in the area. Most on-street parking is metered.'
'At the theater's bars, you can purchase drinks as well as snacks like hot dogs, popcorn and candy. Pharmacie Bar + Kitchen is adjacent to the venue, and you can travel between the two during shows. You can bring a drink from the Pharmacie back to The Wellmont with you. Other dining options in the area include Montclair House Grill and Vanillamore.'
'Most shows at The Wellmont Theater are open to patrons of all ages. Tickets are required for all guests age 3 and up, but children 2 and under are typically admitted for free with a paying adult.'
'Patrons in wheelchairs can enjoy a show at The Wellmont from the main floor, and the venue has accessible restrooms. The building does not have an elevator.'
