The TOUR Championship Tickets

The TOUR Championship is one of the last major events of the PGA season and the culmination of the PGA playoff system known as the FedEx Cup. The tournament originally began in 1987 as a competition between the top 30 money winners on the PGA Tour. Though it bounced between different courses early in its history, the TOUR Championship found a permanent home at the

East Lake

Golf Course. The format of the TOUR Championship has undergone several permutations throughout its history. In 2019, the rules were changed so that the winner of both the TOUR Championship and the overall FedEx Cup is determined by a combination of a stroke-based system and the lowest aggregate score over 72 holes. This is done to prevent a split between the FedEx Cup champion and the winner of the TOUR Championship. Past winners have included Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, David Duval, Vijay Singh, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Tom Watson. Purchase your TOUR Championship tickets at StubHub.

What is the format of the tournament?

The TOUR Championship is the culmination of a season-long effort. During the PGA regular season, players accumulate points based on their finish in tournaments. The top 125 players at the end of the season compete in the three tournaments of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. After the conclusion of the first tournament, the Northern Trust, the number of players is cut to 70. After the second tournament, the BMW Championship, the number is reduced further to 30 players. Each player is given a ranking based on the number of FedEx Cup points. According to the FedEx Cup starting stroke system, the leader of the rankings system coming into the TOUR Championship will start the event with a large 10 under par lead. The second place will start at eight under par, third place will start at seven under par and so on. The last five players start at even par. During the tournament itself, players compete over four rounds to achieve the best score. There is no cut between rounds, so all 30 players will continue to compete through the weekend, barring injuries or withdrawals. At the end of the tournament, the starting stroke handicap will be added to the final score to determine the winner.

When does the TOUR Championship take place?

The 2020 TOUR Championship schedule is set for Aug. 27 to the 30th, a week after the BMW Championship. Before the 2019 changes, the TOUR Championship began in September.

Who won the last TOUR Championship?

Rory McIlroy won the 2019 TOUR Championship with a score of 13 under par (18 under if counting the starting strokes). Xander Schauffele finished in second place, followed by Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas. Rory McIlroy was the overall FedEx Cup winner.
