Jersey Mike's Arena (formerly Rutgers Athletic Center)
The Rutgers Athletic Center (RAC) was opened in 1977, and it is the home of the men's and women's basketball teams at Rutgers. RAC also hosts wrestling, gymnastics and many other events. The RAC was the home of the NBA's New Jersey Nets from 1977 until 1981, when the Meadowlands Sports Complex became the team's new residence and before the team moved to Brooklyn. The RAC is the smallest arena in the Big Ten Conference, but it is also the most fun and most intimate setting in the Big Ten Conference, and every fan gets a close view of the action. The RAC is truly a multiuse venue and has hosted performances by The Grateful Dead, Supertramp and Styx. The 2017 Big Ten Gymnastics Championships were held here, and the Rutgers University Dance Marathon benefit for the Embrace Kids Foundation has been held at the RAC since 2014. The Scarlet Knights are the big draw here, though, and fans offer their loud support every year to the players on the court. Get all your RAC tickets at StubHub.
The RAC seating capacity is for 8,000 people.
The Audi Rutgers Club is a premium seating opportunity for the games at the RAC. Members receive benefits such as wide and cushioned seats with cup holders, the best sight lines in the stadium, an all-you-can-eat buffet, priority parking, access to the Club Lounge bars, plasma televisions and preferential ticket purchasing options.
Visitors can arrive at the RAC via train or bus. The NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor Line provides service between New York, Newark and Trenton. SEPTA provides service to Trenton and Philadelphia. NJ Transit Buses M11, M14, M15 and M18 all have stops close to the Rutgers Athletic Center. The Rutgers bus also provides service throughout the Rutgers University campus.
There is parking for those attending RAC events, and there are also various paid parking lots, garages and decks in the area.
The concession stands at the RAC offer the usual fare of popcorn, candy and nachos. There are also items like beef empanadas, buffalo chicken dip, cruditŽ dip with hummus, salads and fresh fruit cups. There are monitors with live feeds so fans won't miss the game while standing in the concession lines.
Besides all the usual fun things to see while in a university town, visitors can walk through the relaxing and beautiful Rutgers Gardens, which are botanical gardens with bamboo thickets. The Rutgers Geology Museum is a fascinating place to tour while in town.
