The Rutgers Athletic Center (RAC) was opened in 1977, and it is the home of the men's and women's basketball teams at Rutgers. RAC also hosts wrestling, gymnastics and many other events. The RAC was the home of the NBA's New Jersey Nets from 1977 until 1981, when the Meadowlands Sports Complex became the team's new residence and before the team moved to Brooklyn. The RAC is the smallest arena in the Big Ten Conference, but it is also the most fun and most intimate setting in the Big Ten Conference, and every fan gets a close view of the action. The RAC is truly a multiuse venue and has hosted performances by The Grateful Dead, Supertramp and Styx. The 2017 Big Ten Gymnastics Championships were held here, and the Rutgers University Dance Marathon benefit for the Embrace Kids Foundation has been held at the RAC since 2014.
