To them, The Machine meant the music industry, it was also society and it was the new EMS VCS 3 synthesizer that played so big a role in their music at the time. Today, The Machine has taken on a new meaning. It's the New York-based tribute band that has recreated the mind-bending live performances of Pink Floyd for a new generation of fans. The Machine is one of the pioneers of the modern tribute band craze. Their multi-media, multi-sensory shows continue to dazzle audiences around the world.

The origin of The Machine

The second track on Pink Floyd's deeply personal album Wish You Were Here was Welcome to the Machine. The album was the band's love letter to Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett, who was driven to madness and never returned. The cover band The Machine formed in 1988, after the original members of Pink Floyd broke apart in a series of very public feuds over the nature of art itself.

The working parts of The Machine

In The Machine, Joe Pascarell takes over the part of David Gilmour on lead guitar and lead vocals. Ryan Ball stands in for Pink Floyd's other co-founder and main songwriter Roger Waters on bass and backup vocals. Scott Chasolen plays keyboards and handles vocals in place of the scholarly Richard Wright. Finally, Tahrah Cohen is the drummer who replaces the playful Nick Mason.
