'The original Lettermen formed in the later end of the 1950's, trying out and auditioning for one of the comedy writers on the Jimmy Durante show for the Newcomers of 1928 revue. After the audition the group became known as The Lettermen, releasing two singles for Warner Bros Records, the group was on their way to becoming a real musical sensation. While their first two singles didn't make much of an impression, once they signed to Capitol Records the group took off towards success. Their first hit singles were The Way You Look Tonight and When I Fall In Love which reached number 13 and ten on the charts respectively. It was smooth sailing from there on out, as the group churned out single after single throughout the 60's and into the 70's. To date the group has had a total of 16 hit singles make it into the top ten. The group has been inducted into two separate halls of fame, with the first being the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001 and the second being the Hit Parade Hall of Fame in 2012. This is a huge honor, and very much well deserved for a group as iconic as The Lettermen.'
'With The Lettermen releasing so many hit singles and albums, it might be hard to pinpoint a single song or album that initially set the group on the track to success. Their first successful song to become a chart topping hit was the 1961 single When I Fall In Love, which along with The Way You Look Tonight setting the stage for the success that was to come for the group. Starting in that same year, The Lettermen began a ritual of performing at least 200 shows a year, every year, a tradition that carries on to this very day. So with so many amazing hits and with enough experience to guarantee a stellar performance, there's no reason not to check out The Lettermen perform live when they come to a town near you!'
'During the period of time of the late 50's and early 60's there were actually a few musical groups that vied for the title of The Lettermen, despite the fact that The Lettermen had been using that title since the mid 50's. So a battle for the title took place between the three groups, with whoever released the first hit record being the winner and legally rightful owner of the name. Luckily The Lettermen won out in the end with the release of their hit singles in the early 60's. If The Lettermen hadn't been as musically profound as they were, many people could have grown up in a world with a very different group known as The Lettermen. And that's a world that many would rather not live in.'
'If you've ever been lucky enough to make it out to one of the live shows put on by The Lettermen, then you already know full well how powerful and amazing their shows are. With decades and decades of material to choose from at their shows, they know exactly which hit singles to pull out to keep the audience in a state of constant adulation. With song after song being hits that have made them what they are today, you won't be able to find a single bad song being performed. These songs will be a blast for the past for anyone who's had enough birthdays can remember, and will also be a history lesson in what good music sounds like to anyone young enough to have not experienced The Lettermen in their heyday. So the next time you're thinking back on how great music of the past was, remember that you can still revel in the nostalgia of good music by making it out to one of the many shows that The Lettermen continue to put on.'
