50 years after it all got started, the Grateful Dead is still carrying on by delivering one incredible show after another, which is why it's always the play to head out and see these bona fide legends as they hit the stage looking to keep the electrifying performances coming. This is one of those iconic bands that every fan absolutely has to see in person sooner or later, as they're known to have fans absolutely hooked on the action and you might even find yourself wanting to do it all over again. The good news is that they're also not shy about traveling all over the place, which is why you're likely to find a concert near you sooner or later.

The concert tour will also take them to all kinds of different amazing venues, mostly of the state-of-the-art variety. Including stops at beautiful new Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California (home of the San Francisco 49ers) and Soldier Field (Chicago Bears), The Grateful Dead are sure to bring in fans by the tens of thousands as they hit up some of the most renowned venues in the country for a big-time spectator sport. So no matter how many different ways there are to listen to your favorite tunes these days, it doesn't get any better than actually being next to all the other fans who love this band as much as you do, as a Dead concert is the type of experience that tends to be pretty much self-explanatory.

The Grateful Dead Background

Formed in the Bay Area of California, The Grateful Dead rose to fame through their grassroots approach to the music world, which in turn helped to make them bona fide icons of the 1960s. Their improvisational shows became legendary, and it's safe to say that The Grateful Dead never played the same show twice. Their unique and infectious blend of jazz, rock, bluegrass, folk, reggae, and country made them one of the most buzzed about bands on the scene – not just in the U.S. but in the entire world. The band's founding members included Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Ron McKernan, Phil Lesh, and Bill Kreutzmann, though more members were added to the lineup over the decades, such as Mickey Hart, Keith Godchaux, and Vince Welnick.

By 1994, The Grateful Dead had such a strong following and status in the music world that it was inducted into the Rock and Roll Fall of Fame. This is a band that will forever be remembered as one of the leading jam bands in the history of rock music, and they played thousands of incredibly unique shows until the tragic death of Jerry Garcia in 1995. After Garcia's death, many of the remaining Grateful Dead members formed a group called the Warlocks, but these days it's all about the Grateful Dead music again, leading to an exciting new tour schedule that is sure to have fans pouring in from all over.

The Grateful Dead Greatest Hits

Over the course of their career, The Grateful Dead released 13 studio albums, six compilation albums, nine live albums, 10 video albums, and even more box sets and singles, giving them the type of extensive set of songs that is simply too long to fully do justice. Some of the Dead's most beloved hits include rock favorites like Uncle John's Band, Truckin, One More Saturday Night, Sugar Magnolia, Dark Star, Dancin' in the Streets, Good Lovin', Shakedown Street, Hell in a Bucket, Throwing Stones, Touch of Grey, and Foolish Heart, but that's really only just the beginning. Even though that list represents many of their most popular tracks, it's often the underrated fan favorites that make the biggest impact when it comes to a Grateful Dead concert, which is why each event ends up as riveting as it is unique.

The Grateful Dead Trivia

After their self-titled 1967 album got it all rolling for the Dead, can you name their follow-up album?

The answer is the Anthem of the Sun, which was the first to include drummer Mickey Hart and would eventually get picked by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest albums of all-time.
