More than just a single style and sound making up an entire genre, world music is so much more than your average music, as it is music that could be hailing from a thousand different places. It can be hard for many Americans to understand, but there's plenty of great music being created outside the confines of these United States, and often times it's pretty great. History

Quite possibly one of the biggest musical genres in the world, world music is the self-explanatory genre that encapsulates traditional music from all around the world! While there has always been world music as long as humankind has known how to create music, the term world music only became popularized in the late 1900's as it became easier to listen to music that was before mostly listened by locals or inhabitants of their own country. With much of world music being traditional, many people outside the traditional realm of that area found little interest in what was traditional to others, but with the arrival of globalization and the ease of access to nearly everything, world music has grown substantially in recent years. With world music becoming a much more easily accessible genre, sub-genres have began to grow such as ethnic fusion, worldbeat, global fusion, and world fusion. World music as a whole is an incredibly vague term that is used to cover a wide variety of music that could range from traditional Irish/Celtic music to Spanish, African, Caribbean, and everything in between. So no matter what style or regional sound you're looking for, with world music extending it's reach from local to global, you should have no problem in finding the music that you've been looking for.

Life As A Music Lover

There's no end to the joy in the life of a music lover, as there are a cavalcade of different styles and sounds from various regions that are available to be listened to. While the music scene as a whole is constantly shifting towards new styles, instruments, and sounds, traditional music will always remain the same so you know exactly what you're getting. You don't have to be a fan of traditional music to love world music, as something that is traditional to a local of the area would be completely different to an outsider. So when you live your life as a music lover, there is a near endless amount of variety in the world of music that you can find and continue to enjoy. Whether or not you enjoy your own area's traditional music or have found yourself entranced by music that is completely foreign to your area, the joy found in discovering and learning about new music is something that will never get old.

Introducing New Fans

Depending on the person in question it could be a difficult task to introduce a new style that could be as foreign as certain types of world music, but for the masses it's only a question of their tastes. In the quest to broaden someones horizons to include world music, the only hard part is learning what kinds of music they like in the first place. After that it's only a matter of finding something that carries over specific elements or instruments to be able to introduce something that would be enjoyed. But with so many different types of music available throughout the world, it seems inevitable that there are sounds and groups that are bound to be enjoyed.

Experiences

It's always a unique experience the first time you discover a specific style of world music that is to your liking, as it is like opening a door to a whole new realm of music that you hadn't realized ever existed. Broadening ones horizons to include music outside of your initial comfort zone is an awesome feeling that can only be beaten by the continuation of your quest to find new music that you may have never imagined enjoying before. The experiences will vary from person to person depending on the style of world music that they discover, but it will always be a feeling that will be cherished and carried into continued efforts in the future of music.
