The Texas Legends are one of 28 different teams in the NBA G League, the official minor league of the
National Basketball Association
. The NBA G League was created to prepare minor league players for the NBA. The Texas Legends act as a farm team for their affiliate, the Dallas Mavericks. The Legends have had 24 players called up to NBA rosters throughout the franchise's history, with the most call-ups between 2016-2018. Having a somewhat disappointing record of 16-34 in the 2018-19 season, the Texas Legends franchise decided to make a change. The organization hired George Galanopoulos in 2019 as the new head coach for the Legends. In their 2019-2020 season, you can watch Texas Legends like Antonius Cleveland, Chad Brown, Isaac Copeland and Aric Holman play at the Comerica Center, the team's home arena in Frisco, Texas. ''Inflatables, carnival-type rides, a mechanical bull, a mini ice rink and a rock-climbing wall are just a few of the activities available for kids at Texas Legends games. With kid-friendly concession fare, slides, creative stations and play areas, kids will be entertained all night with most recreation areas visible from your seat. Older kids will enjoy the Gaming Central area of the arena. Families who stay through the game are invited to step out on the court afterward for autographs and photos with notable Legends players.'
'In 2009, Donnie Nelson of the Dallas Mavericks purchased the NBA G League franchise Colorado 14ers and relocated the team to Frisco, Texas. The Colorado 14ers that existed from 2006-2009 were renamed the Legends after their move. Nancy Lieberman was hired as the first head coach of the Legends, and she was also the first-ever woman to coach professional basketball.'
'
Beginning in 2017, NBA rosters were expanded to allow room for players under two-way contracts. Players signing these contracts spend the majority of their season in the G League and up to 45 days with their NBA team. The Texas Legends have four roster players with two-way contracts. Antonius Cleveland and Josh Reaves are contracted with both the Legends and the Dallas Mavericks while Jaylen Hoard and Moses Brown are both contracted through the
Portland Trail Blazers
.
''Attending a Legends game is very similar to attending an NBA game. The players on the court are competing for NBA opportunities and are playing to win. With all of the excitement and intensity of an NBA game, the atmosphere at a Legends game is more family-focused and economical. With multiple promotions, giveaways and prizes, there is fun for all ages at the Comerica Center on Texas Legends game days.'
'Due to the nature of the G League, player rosters change frequently, and points scored during games vary greatly per player. Gary Trent, Jr. led the team in points per game during the 2018-2019 season, with a 33.3 average. This was only his first year out of Duke University. Ray Spalding, a forward from Louisville, led the team with an average of 9.4 rebounds in 29 games played.'
