'The men’s basketball team of Texas A&M started play in 1912. Since then, the team has brought home 12 regular-season conference titles and earned 14 trips to the NCAA Tournament. The team’s prowess is also the main reason why its players are often tapped to play professional basketball after they graduate. Some former Aggies who are currently playing in the NBA include DeAndre Jordan, Billy Caruso and Tyler Davis. While the team did undergo what fans call its Dark Ages, coach Billy Gillispie helped them bounce back into the spotlight. The team was expected to finish last during the 2004-05 season but was able to win its first 10 games and ended the season at 21-10, 8-8 in the conference. The team went on to qualify for five consecutive NCAA Tournaments (2007-2011). The Aggies last made the tourney in 2018. 'The Texas A&M Aggies have competed in the Southeastern Conference since 2012. As a power conference that's often led by Kentucky, Florida and Auburn, the SEC is very competitive. The Aggies have yet to win a conference regular season or tournament championship since joining the SEC.'
'The team was able to finish the 2018-19 season at 14-18 (6-12 SEC). The season marked the last time the team was helmed by coach Billy Kennedy. The school hired former Virginia Tech head coach Buzz Williams in April 2019.'
'The 2018-19 season saw many members of the men’s basketball team leaving after they graduated or declared for the NBA draft. This gave new transfers a chance to show their skills. For 2019-2020, Texas A&M added Wendell Mitchell, Brandon Mahan, John Brown and Christian Mekowulu'
'The 2015-2016 season saw the biggest rebound of the Aggies in nearly a decade. Under the leadership of coach Billy Kennedy, the team went 28-9 (13-5 SEC) and received an at-large invitation to the NCAA Tournament. In the Round of 32, they defeated Northern Iowa 92-88 in a double-overtime thriller. This proved to be one of the most exciting games in Texas A&M history. Unfortunately, the team lost in the Sweet Sixteen round to Oklahoma.'
