The Syracuse Crunch is an important development program and minor league affiliate of the

Tampa Bay Lightning

of the NHL. Before the creation of the Crunch, the city of Syracuse had a long history of AHL greatness. The Syracuse Stars won the inaugural Calder Cup championship in 1937 over the Philadelphia Ramblers. When the modern day Crunch was created in 1994, it was an affiliate program of the Vancouver Canucks until 2000, then the Columbus Blue Jackets until 2010 and the Anaheim Ducks until 2012. A new affiliate agreement with Tampa Bay seemed to propel Syracuse to unprecedented franchise success. Since then, the team has won three of its four division titles. It has also made the Calder Cup finals twice in 2013 and 2017, losing to the

Grand Rapids Griffins

both times in six games. Fans can purchase Syracuse Crunch tickets at StubHub, a leading source for live events.

'Who is Syracuse’s rival?'

'Syracuse shares an in-state rivalry with the Rochester Americans, the Binghamton Devils and the Utica Comets, all of which are located less than a hundred miles from the Crunch. Besides their numerous regular season meetings, Syracuse and Rochester have met four times in the playoffs. Their most pivotal meeting was the 1996 conference finals in which Rochester beat Syracuse in five games on its way to the Calder Cup championship.'

'What was Syracuse’s record last season?'

'

In the 2018-2019 season, Syracuse won the North Division with a record of 47-21-4-4. The team’s 102 points were second in the entire league, behind only Charlotte’s 110 points. However, the season ended in the first round of the playoffs with a four-game upset against the fourth place division team, the

Cleveland Monsters

. Syracuse lost both the first two games at home: 3-5 and 1-5. After a close 2-1 win to stave off the sweep, the team lost the final game of the season 0-3.

'

'When does the 2019-2020 season take place?'

Binghamton

on March 20,

Hershey

on March 27,

Rochester

on April 4,

Toronto

on April 10 and

'

'Who is Syracuse’s head coach?'

'Ben Groulx is the current head coach of the Crunch. Except for a brief stint with the AHL’s Rochester Americans between 2008 and 2010, Groulx had spent much of his coaching career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League — a professional organization for youth hockey players — with the Hull/Gatineau Olympiques. A former QMHJL Coach of the Year, he won the league championship in 2003, 2004 and 2008. Right before he was named the Crunch head coach in 2016, he led Team Canada to the World Junior Championships.'

'What is a Crunch game like?'

'

A Syracuse Crunch game is a great opportunity to catch NHL-level talent in a local small town setting. The team’s roster is filled with many top prospects and developmental projects of the Tampa Bay Lightning franchise so fans can expect high-quality hockey. Something like 90 percent of NHL players have come through the AHL at some point. The Syracuse Crunch makes its home at the
