In 1994, Michael Romeo recorded an album, which featured Michael Pinnella. The album received a lot of attention and Romeo and Pinnella decided to put a band together and Symphony X was born. Over the course of their career, Symphony X have released nine albums. Their self titled debut album cam out in 1994. The album features the songs The Raging Season, Masquerade and Rapture or Pain. In 1997 they released The Divine Wings of Tragedy, which was their breakthrough album. It received positive reviews from critics and was given four stars by Allmusic. The album features the songs Of Sins and Shadows, Out of the Ashes and The Eyes of Medusa. In 2005 Hard Rock Magazine ranked the album No. 433 on their list of the best 500 metal albums of all time.

In 2002 the band released The Odyssey which once again received mostly positive reviews. The album features the songs Incantations of the Apprentice, The Turning and They Odyssey. The 2011 album Iconoclast is the band's highest charting album in the US. It climbed to No. 76 on the charts and features the songs The End of Innocence, Children of a Faceless God and When All is Lost. The band's most recent album Underworld was released in 2015.
