, starring Gloria Swanson. From there, the State Theatre began showing matinees of children's cartoons such as

. Eventually, the theater began including dance and theatrical productions while continuing to present Hollywood films. While some events may have an age requirement, generally, all ages are welcomed to attend State Theatre events and children who are under the age of 2 will be allowed to enter for free. And when it comes to consuming alcohol, all persons must be at least 21 years of age to purchase and consume alcohol and will be asked for I.D. if this is the case.
Yes, food, such as popcorn, pizza and more are offered and provided by Portland Pie Company. The theater also has a full bar with a large selection of wines, beer or liquor as well as soft drinks and water.
Depending on the artist's requirements you may or may not be able to bring a camera inside of an event, and this is something that may not be known until the actual day of the event. Generally, most personal cameras, such as a point and shoot, are allowed. For specific event policies, please call 207-956-6000 the day of the event.
State Theatre parking is available throughout the area via street parking as well as garage parking. The garage is located on High Street next to Westin Harborview Hotel.
Usually, State Theatre events are seatless unless a specific show advertises otherwise. However, the theater does have a couple of balconies with seats as well as awesome views. For those with special needs such as the handicapped, there is special seating available.
Large bags and backpacks, weapons of any kind including pocket knives, outside drinks and food, spray paint, markers, stickers or fliers are not allowed inside any State Theatre performance.
Smoking is not allowed. While you may be allowed to smoke outside of the venue, the State Theatre has a strict no re-entry policy, so once you go outside, for any reason, you will not be allowed back in.
