American jam band Spafford rose to fame with their critically acclaimed live album Abaculus: An Improvisational Experience. Known for their improvised performances, the quartet has built up a cult following with their diverse repertoire of original and cover songs. After supporting jam band legends such as Umphrey's McGee, the quartet is now taking their electro-funk therapy on the road with their own headline tours.

Brian Moss and Jordan Fairless founded the band in Prescott, Arizona in 2009 and named themselves after their friend Chuck Johnson's middle name. That same year, they played their first gig on New Year's Eve at Coyote Joe's in Prescott, with Moss on vocals and lead guitar and Fairless on drums.
In 2010, Mike Kreidel and Jonathan Hurst joined the band on drums and keyboard respectively, with multi-instrumentalist Fairless taking on bass guitar. Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Red Johnson and drummer Nick Tkachyk joined the band the following year. Since then, Spafford's line-up has undergone several changes, with drummer Cameron Laforest joining the band and Kreidel, Hurst and Tkachyk leaving for new pastures.
Following performing at several open mic nights at Coyote Joe's, Spafford self-released their eponymous debut studio album in May 2012. Over the next four years, the band released four live albums, entitled Live at Firefly, Live in Las Vegas, Live Volume 1 and Live Volume 2, and played at venues throughout Southwest.
In September 2016, the quartet embarked on their seven-date headline tour of the Midwest, the Breakout Tour, supported by Conundrum, Digg, Kitchen Dwellers and A Ferocious Jungle Cat. The Spafford tour was a huge success, with tickets for their shows at the Tonic Room selling out in under two hours.
Following the success of their Breakout Tour, Spafford hit the road on their 2017 tour, while simultaneously supporting jam band Umphrey's McGee on 12 dates of their West Coast Couch Tour. Later that year, the quartet played the festival circuit alongside artists such as moe., My Morning Jacket, Rusted Root and The String Cheese Incident.
After performing at festivals like Some Kind of Jam, the Summer Camp Music Festival and the Electric Forest Festival, Spafford released their second studio album, Abaculus: An Improvisational Experience, in August 2017. Recorded live in one take and presented as a single hour-long track, the critically acclaimed album spans several genres, including bluegrass, jazz, alternative rock, funk and dance jams.
Following releasing their album, the band embarked on their national headline tour, the 2017 fall tour, in September 2017. The Spafford tour, featuring support from artists such as Space Bacon, Soule Monde, Red Rose, and Hayley Jane and the Primates, spanned 40 dates and enthralled audiences in over 20 states across the U.S.
