Born in 1953, Johnny Veliotes Jr. (much more well known by his stage name Shuggie Otis) proves once again that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, as he is the son is the famed musician who was once called the king of rock and roll, Johnny Otis. With music in his blood, Shuggie first started playing the guitar at the ripe age of two, and actually started professionally playing with his father's group when he was only twelve. This often involved wearing a disguise so that he could sneak by and play in night clubs. It was in 1969 that the young Shuggie Otis was asked to be a featured guest on Al Kooper's next session album. From there he continued to play more professionally with his father, being on a number of albums, but also began to release his own solo work starting in 1970.

His immediate solo work was so profound and attention grabbing that even legendary blues guitarist BB King who found Otis to be his favorite new guitarist in 1970.
