Born in Quantico, Virginia, Shelby was already playing the guitar and singing by the age of 7. Like many a country star wannabe, she moved to Nashville in hopes of making it big. She landed her first recording contract with Epic Records after she was featured on TNN's Nashville Now country music show in 1987. Her first recording, If I Could Bottle This Up, was a duet with George Jones. It quickly became a top 50 hit and Shelby became a voice to be reckoned with on the country circuit. After many years of making music and five albums recorded in Nashville, she went to Northern California to release the 1998 record, I Am Shelby Lynne. The album won the Grammy Award for Best New Artists and really put her on the map, making her into the iconic star that she is today.
