Carlesimo, the Seton Hall coach from 1982 to 1994, led the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance. In recent years under coach Kevin Willard, the Pirates have appeared in four consecutive NCAA Tournaments. The team won the National Invitation Tournament championship in 1953 and has played in the NIT 17 times. The Seton Hall Pirates were runner-up in the 1989 NCAA Tournament title game when it lost to
