About Screeching Weasel

Screeching Weasel would start in earnest in 1991, then an off again on again side project spearheaded by Ben Weasel. Screeching Weasel, having had minor success on the local Illinois music scene during the 80s, played a one off show that would spark an interest in officially reforming the band, setting the stage for the band to record their 1991 LP My Brain Hurts for Lookout Records. The band hit the tour road for the next year, slowly laying the foundation for their fourth official full length, Wiggle, which would take Screeching Weasel's heavy hitting punk sound in a new direction as Ben Weasel became the band's full time vocalist. Various lineup changes and two years later, the Screeching Weasel would again go on hiatus as its members went their own separate ways in 1994.

The third iteration of Screeching Weasel would come into being in 1996, quickly building up a following as they toured alongside Green Day and picked up a recording deal with the punk rock hallmark record label Fat Wreck Chords. The band went through another series of lineup changes and recorded a slew of moderately successful albums throughout the decade, but eventually disbanded in 2001 due to the band's inconsistent tour schedule.

The various members of Screeching Weasels pursued side projects in both music and literature, with the band not appearing in an official capacity until 2004 for a special reunion show. Screeching Weasel wouldn't return in earnest, however, until the next decade, when longtime frontman Ben Weasel officially reformed the group with a lineup that mixed fresh faces with a few Screeching Weasel classics. The band would hit the tour road as Screeching Weasel fever hit a fever pitch all across North America, with the band returning to the studio to put out their thirteenth full length album, 2015's Baby Fat: Act I. The band's current lineup consists of longtime frontman Ben Weasel at the helm on vocals, as well as guitarist Zac Damon, percussionist Pierre Marche, second guitarist Mike Hunchback, and certified bass slapper Zach Brandner.

Previous Hits

The band's fifth full length album Anthem for a New Tomorrow would drop in 1993, a 30 minute tome of punk rock greatness that dropped in the Lookout! record label. The album featured the production expertise of legends Andy Ernst and Mass Giorgini, with critics raining praise upon the album that included a coveted four star rating from the critics at AllMusic. The album featured several key Screeching Weasel hits, such as Talk to Me Summer', Leather Jacket, Falling Apart, and I'm Gonna Strangle You.

The band's 1994 follow up How to Make Enemies and Irritate People would be another seminal Screeching Weasel hit, with the album being one of the first after longtime band member Danny Vapid departed the group. The album featured several instant Screeching Weasel classics, including Burnout Girl, I Hate Your Guts on Sunday, Time Bomb, and I Wrote Holden Caulfield.

Trivia

The band's lineup has changed considerably over the year, but for most of its duration featured band founders Ben Weasel and John Jughead. The band's most recent reformation in 2009-2011 was the first Screeching Weasel lineup to not feature Jughead. Zac Damon, currently with the band, has also been part of the lineup since 1997.
