Tyler Gillum will enter his third season as the manager of the Savannah Bananas in 2020. In addition to his duties in Savannah, Gillum is also the infield coach and third base coach for South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, Arizona, where he also serves as the program's health and wellness coordinator. He has been with South Mountain for seven seasons in some capacity. Coach Gillum has been a part of summer league collegiate baseball since 2012 when he was with the South Shore Eagles of the Myrtle Beach Summer Collegiate League before serving as an assistant with the Brazos Valley Bombers of the Texas Collegiate League. During his time with the Bombers, the team posted a 138-31 record and won three TCL titles.
In 2019, 10 former Savannah Banana players were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft. Among those 10 were former Bananas' stars such as Brett Wiseley, Cade Marlowe, Clay Dungan, Utah Jones and Braden Shewmake, who was selected 21st overall by the Atlanta Braves.
Grayson Stadium, originally constructed in 1926, is the home of the Savannah Bananas. The stadium underwent a massive renovation project in 1941 after a hurricane essentially destroyed the ballpark. The 4,000-seat Grayson Stadium has a long history of Minor League Baseball tenants but was left vacant in 2015 when the New York Mets relocated their Single-A affiliate to Columbia, S.C. Over the course of Grayson Stadium's long history, Major League Baseball legends such as Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and Jackie Robinson have taken the field in Savannah. Concessions at Grayson Stadium range from typical ballpark fares to more banana-themed options such as frozen chocolate bananas and a specialty banana liqueur drink called the Slipper Banana. The stadium holds to its traditional feel down to the manually operated scoreboard that is changed by hand during the game.
