The San Jose Barracuda is the main minor league affiliate of its owner and operator, the

San Jose Sharks

. The roster is comprised of prospects, developmental projects and veterans either signed directly with the Barracuda or under contract with the Sharks. Before the franchise had arrived in San Jose, it was originally known as the Kansas City Blades of the IHL between 1991 and 1996. The Blades 1991 championship is still the only league title in franchise history. After departing Kansas City, the franchise became the Kentucky Thoroughblades, then the Cleveland Barons and finally the Worcester Sharks. In 2015, the AHL announced that it would relocate Worcester and several other franchises to California for a newly created Pacific Division. Led by head coach Roy Sommer, San Jose had its best ever finish in 2017 with a Pacific Division win and a berth in the conference finals, where it lost to the eventual champions Grand Rapids Griffins in five games. The team also made the postseason in 2016, 2018 and 2019. Fans can purchase San Jose Barracuda tickets at StubHub.
