'About San Fermin'

'

San Fermin is a dynamic, boundary pushing baroque pop outfit that has been lighting up the North American music scene since 2011. The band is the musical brainchild of Ellis Ludwig-Leone, a Yale University graduate who spent his formative years diligently studying composition. Ellis' musical repertoire would be built in the arenas of opera and film, working under the tutelage of legendary and commercially successful composer Nico Muhly, who helped Ellis build his fundamental understanding of music that would eventually blossom into a full blown career creating music. Towards the end of his college career, Ellis would find passion for performance and pop writing, a far cry from the tedious and painstaking songwriting usual for more traditional composing.

Immediately upon graduation, Ellis put together a record that would become San Fermin's full length debut. Always possessed by the composer's touch, Ellis' music would include no less than an eight piece band to deliver his alternative baroque pop sound, with him enlisting the help of a variety of talented performers including longtime friend Allen Tate, Jess Wolfe, Holly Laessig, Rae Cassidy, and Charlene Kaye. San Fermin's sound incorporates classical elements, including traditional horn and string melodies, juxtaposed with electro sounds and prominent female vocals. The band's innovative sound has received praise across the board, including unabashedly positive reviews from The New York times' Paul Krugman, the New Yorker, NPR, and Pitchfork Media.

The band dropped their debut in 2013 on Downtown Records, and have since recorded and released two EPs and are preparing for the forthcoming release of their sophomore album Jackrabbit.

'Previous Hits'

'The band's debut self-titled full length album received widespread critical acclaim and commercial success, with the band climbing to the #18 position on the Billboard Heatseekers charts. The band would be praised by NPR as one of the year's best and most surprising records, and the album's addictive single Sonsick was hailed by Pitchfork Media as one of the most addictive tracks of 2013. The album included a slew of hit tracks in addition to Sonsick, such as Renaissance!, Daedalus (What We Have), and Methuselah.'

'Trivia'

'

The band's current lineup includes eight musicians, with Ellis Ludwig-Leone at the helm doing the majority of the writing and composition. Alongside Ellis are Allen Tate, Charlene Kaye, Rebekah Durham, John Brandon, Michael Hanf, Tyler McDiarmid, and Stephen Chen. Former core member Rae Cassidy departed San Fermin in 2014 to focus on other work.

The band's forthcoming album Jackrabbit features an April 2015 release date, and has already seen the release of the album's lead off single Parasites. NPR, enamored with San Fermin's evocative jams, helped premier the track.
