Last season was a turnaround year for the Sacramento Kings, who have seen a lot of tough seasons since they were last regular Western Conference contenders, in the early 2000s. With some excellent offseason roster updates made in support of a high-powered offense, fans are feeling optimistic about the Kings making a solid return to postseason play in 2024-2025.
The Sacramento Kings franchise is the oldest in the NBA. Founded in 1923 as the Rochester Seagrams, the team joined the NBL in 1945 renamed as the Rochester Royals. The Royals joined the NBA in 1948 and relocated to become the Cincinnati Royals in 1957, before moving again in 1972 to become the Kansas City Omaha Kings. Still looking for franchise success, they made their final move, becoming the Sacramento Kings in 1985. The franchise has won 6 Division titles, but no Conference titles yet. The franchise appeared in 1 NBA Finals game as the Rochester Royals in 1951, winning that Championship game. The King’s biggest rivals are the Golden State Warriors.

The Sacramento Kings play at Golden 1 Center, a multi-purpose venue which opened in downtown Sacramento, California, in 2016, with a seating capacity of 17,608 for basketball games. The exterior is architecturally interesting with rippling metallic walls, etched with leaves. The building is run on solar energy, with panels on the roof providing some power and a local solar farm supplying the balance. Inside, the arena was created with fan enjoyment and engagement in mind, making it a fantastic place to watch an NBA game. Seating is comfortable with great court views, there are social areas to stand and watch the game, and wide 360-degree concourses give visitors views into the lower bowl and outside to the city. In addition to being sustainably focused, Golden 1 Center was also built to be one of the most technologically advanced sports arenas and planned so that it could be easily updated for future tech advancements without needing to build new infrastructure. Go early to explore the permanent collection of work from local artists showcased throughout the venue, including world-renowned artist Jeff Koons.
