Rusted Root history

Rusted Root became the frontrunner of the neo-hippie movement of the '90s, which included acts like Widespread Panic and Blues Traveler. In 1990, they released their debut album, Cruel Sun, which sold more than 100,000 copies. The unexpected success brought them to the attention of Mercury Records, under which they released their breakthrough album When I Woke in 1994.

This certified-platinum album debuted their first big hit, Send Me On My Way, which reached No. 72 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. The follow-up Remember (1996) also cracked the Billboard Top 40, aided by their cover of the Stones' classic You Can't Always Get What You Want. The jam band released their seventh studio album, The Movement, in 2012.

Rusted Root's music has frequently appeared in popular shows and movies. Send Me On My Way was in the movies Ice Age, Matilda and Race The Sun. Plus, Virtual Reality appeared in the hit film Twister. Their cover of You Can't Always Get What You Want was featured in an Ally McBeal episode, and Evil Ways was included on the soundtrack of the film Home for the Holidays. Other shows featuring Rusted Roots' music include New Girl, Party of Five and Charmed. The jam band has also appeared on The Late Night Show by David Letterman, Conan O' Brien and CBS' Saturday Early Show.
