Rose Bowl Tickets

Nicknamed “The Granddaddy of Them All,” the Rose Bowl is the oldest operating bowl game. The first match took place in 1902 between Stanford and Michigan and was originally called the Tournament East-West football game. The Rose Bowl has been an annual affair since 1916 as well as the most-attended bowl game since 1945. As part of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association's America's New Year Celebration, the game is played on January 1 with the momentous Rose Parade kicking off the festivities. In 2015, the Rose Bowl was designated the site of the College Football Playoff semifinal every three years. Traditionally, the game has been played between the Big Ten and Pac-12 conference, but since 2002, the Rose Bowl deviated to crown the national champion under the Bowl Championship Series. In 2002 and 2006, the championship game was held at the Rose Bowl. In non-playoff years, the Rose Bowl returns to the customary Pac-12/Big 10 game. What conferences play in the Rose Bowl?

Historically, the Rose Bowl has hosted the winner of the Pac-12 conference versus the winner of the Big Ten conference. However, every three years, the bowl games rotate for the semifinal location, so the 2024 Rose Bowl will not necessarily host these two conferences. The competing teams will be determined based on their records at the end of the season.

How big is the Rose Bowl Stadium?

With a current capacity of 92,542 people, Rose Bowl Stadium is the 15th-largest stadium in the world, the 11th-largest coliseum in the United States and the 10th-largest NCAA stadium. The venue features an all-seated configuration, making it an unusual college football stadium since most have bench seating.

What are some of the best Rose Bowl games of all time?

The top five Rose Bowl games in college football history include the 1998 Rose Bowl: No. 1 Michigan versus No. 8 Washington State in which Michigan was the victor. The 1980 Rose Bowl was the stuff of college football legend with No. 3 USC facing No. 1 Ohio State. USC edged out Ohio state 17-16 in an exhilarating match. The 1997 Rose Bowl game was a doozy with No. 4 Ohio State beating No. 2 Arizona State by only three points. In the 1963 Rose Bowl, No. 1 USC triumphed over No. 2 Wisconsin by only five points. USC was undefeated, and the Badgers entered the matchup with just one loss. During the game, 11 records were set, most of which were passing records. The Badgers were down by four possessions and fought back with 23 unanswered points but fell short. The best game in Rose Bowl history occurred in 2018 with No. 3 Georgia beating No. 2 Oklahoma 54-48. The Rose Bowl was the semifinal for the College Football Playoff, so the game was a classic shootout with the teams setting a Rose Bowl record for most combined points at 102. The game went into double overtime with Georgia blocking Oklahoma's field goal attempt and returning it for a touchdown.

On what date is the Rose Bowl?

Since the Rose Bowl is one of the New Year's Six games, including the Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Peach and Sugar Bowls, the game is held every year on January 1.
