Casey Abrams spent his formative years in Huntsville, Alabama learning how to play guitar and honing his skills as a musician. While attending the University of Arkansas, he formed his first band, The Hawks, and toured throughout his home state of Alabama, Oklahoma and Missouri. During this time, the talented musician also ran a rock and roll club called Rockwood Club that hosted some of the era's biggest stars including Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison and Conway Twitty. On the advice of Twitty, Hawkins began touring in Canada in the late 1950s. After performing at the Golden Rail Tavern in Hamilton, Ontario, he became an instant star. In the late 1960s, Hawkins hosted John Lennon and Yoko Ono while they were staying in Ontario. Along with sharing some wisdom with the young musician, Lennon also promoted Hawkins' single Down In the Alley on a local radio show.
