The Rockford IceHogs started their history as a team in 1999 by officially joining the United Hockey League. The name came from a newspaper poll of local residents and beat out other potential team names, such as Mighty Oaks, Rockets, Roughnecks, Ice Rangers and Ricochets. In 2007, the IceHogs made the move to the American Hockey League as the top affiliate of the
Chicago Blackhawks
with an initial 10-year agreement. They won their first UHL championship in May of the same year, which also happened to mark the last UHL contest. During the team's first season as a member of the American Hockey League, they qualified for the Calder Cup playoffs. Since then, the Rockford IceHogs have seen more accolades, set attendance records for their home games at the
BMO Harris Bank Center
and have continued their affiliation with the Chicago Blackhawks. Get your Rockford IceHogs tickets today at StubHub, the world's largest ticket marketplace.

Since the beginning of the team back in 1999, over 100 players that were once Rockford IceHogs have played for the National Hockey League as well as over 20 players going on to being part of a Stanley Cup-winning team. Of those players that have gone on to play for the NHL, the majority of them became members of the Chicago Blackhawks. All of the players that went on to win the Stanley Cup did so as players for the Blackhawks. Uniquely, the Rockford IceHogs have also had former players represented as members of each of the 31 teams in the National Hockey League. The very first of the Rockford IceHogs to play in the NHL was Raitis Ivanans who became one of the
Montreal Canadiens
in 2005.
