The Riptide Music Festival is a weekend-long event that celebrates the best of alternative and classic music. The eclectic range of musical genres featured at Riptide includes rock, pop, hip-hop, R&B, electronic and punk. The featured musical artists span multiple generations, from the '60s until today.
The Riptide Music Festival began as one of the major musical events of the Fort Lauderdale, FL, area. As opposed to many other music festivals, Riptide takes place during the late fall season. The inaugural Riptide Music Festival was held on December 3rd and 4th of 2016 with a lineup that included
The B-52s
,
The Struts
,
Good Charlotte
and
Earth, Wind and Fire
. After the success of the first two events, the festival expanded to cover the full three-day weekend in 2018. The theme of the festival is intimately connected to its beachfront location, where most of the concerts and events take place. Fans are encouraged to bring beach blankets, towels and low-rise chairs, but umbrellas, tents or large chairs are prohibited. Fans can also rent out a cabana for up to 10 people ahead of time. Access to the ocean, however, is completely restricted on the festival grounds.
If you want to attend a live performance at the Riptide Music Festival, purchase tickets at the online vendor StubHub. General admission will give you access to most events for one or more days. VIP tickets, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis, will entitle you to a dedicated entrance, dance and lounge areas, raised viewing areas, air-conditioned restrooms, a cash bar and more.

The exact date and lineup for the 2019 event has not been announced. However, the Riptide Music Festival typically takes place in the last days of November or the first few days of December. Stay tuned for more information about the festival dates.
The main stages for the 2019 festival have yet to be announced. However, during past events, the Riptide Music Festival has been split between three different stages: the main Riptide stage, a Ford Blue Lounge stage and an underground stage. For most of the event, live performances run concurrently between the three stages. However, during primetime hours, most of the focus is on the main Riptide stage.
In 2017, the alternative rock band
Cage the Elephant
, fresh off its impressive performance at
Lollapalooza
, rocked the stage of the Riptide Music Festival with a performance of its hit songs, such as Shake Me Down, Trouble, Cigarette Daydreams, Teeth and more.
In the past, the Riptide Music Festival has featured a wine garden, a sports lodge, a live art installation, a lotus-shaped lounge and other small exhibitions such as a giant cocktail mixer and a sand throne. Riptide also features its own small Renaissance Festival.
