''Rice University in Houston Texas has been home to Rice Owls football games since 1912. In 1950, Rice Stadium was built and became the permanent home to the city's beloved team. The Rice Owls played against the Crimson Tide of Alabama in the 1954 Cotton Bowl Classic where they featured in one of the most iconic college football plays of all time. Dickey Moegle of the Rice Owls made an impressive 95-yard dash to the endzone after he shook free from a sweep play. On his way to the endzone, however, Tommy Lewis of Alabama rushed onto the field sans helmet to tackle Moegle. Fortunately for the Owls, referee Cliff Shaw witnessed the encounter and granted the touchdown to the Rice Owls. Since the culmination of the team, the Rice Owls have had many successful seasons with dozens of superstar athletes along the way. Naturally, with success comes epic rivalries, and the Rice Owls are no exception to that rule. From 1918 to 2012, the Rice Owls and SMU Mustangs were part of the same conference and played against one another 90 times, during which SMU claimed the most wins. 'Rice Stadium has been home to the Rice Owls ever since it was built in Houston in 1950. Originally, the stadium could accommodate up to 70,000 fans, but in 2006, the decision was made to renovate the facility. The original wooden bleachers were removed from the stadium, and metal ones were installed in their place while all endzone benches were removed completely. The Rice Stadium currently seats 47,000 fans and is under renovations once again to further improve the fan experience.'
'Tailgating has always been a favored pre-game event for sports fans, but nobody does it better than Texas. Tailgate Owley is the Rice Stadium's designated tailgating area, and it's chock-full of family-friendly activities that everyone in your group will enjoy. There are inflatable games and face painting for the kids and even Houston-area food trucks where you can get pre-game snacks while you listen to music and watch pre-game events. If you don't already have memorabilia for the team, you can find all sorts of gear at the Rice Campus Store Trailer. Tailgate Owley opens three hours before the game, and standard lots will be available four hours before kick-off.'
