Songstress Rhonda Vincent has been named the new Queen of Bluegrass by The Wall Street Journal, and for good reason. This iconoclastic musician has blazed a trail for herself in the male-dominated genre armed with her trusty mandolin which she plays with such skill and aplomb that along with her soaring, bourbon-soaked vocals and lyrics that pluck your heartstrings, she is a force to be reckoned with. Her dulcet melodies and sweet, down-home tones will transport you to the American South as Rhonda Vincent along with her backing band The Rage tear through their set like a steam engine. Rhonda Vincent has been playing music for as long as she could hold a mandolin. Her family's musical heritage has spanned generations, and she joined the legacy at the age of five when she started singing gospel songs in her family's band that would go on to perform under the moniker Sally Mountain Show. She began playing mandolin when she was 8, followed by guitar and fiddle by the time she was 12. As a full-fledged member of the family band, Rhonda Vincent was no stranger to the life of a professional musician by the time she recorded her first solo album, entitled New Dreams and Sunshine, in 1988.
Though she dabbled in more mainstream country music throughout the 1990's with both her solo work and her collaborations with fellow musicians like Alan Jackson, Joe Diffie, Tanya Tucker, and the legendary Dolly Parton, Rhonda Vincent returned to her roots with her bluegrass-tinged 2000 album Back Home Again. This was a wise move for her, as she received massive public and critical praise for her record as well as her multiple follow-ups, including 2003's One Step Ahead, 2006's All American Bluegrass Girl, and 2012's Sunday Mornin' Singin'. For her achievements and influences in the bluegrass scene, Rhonda Vincent has been the recipient of multiple honors from the International Bluegrass Music Association, including 6 consecutive Female Vocalist of the Year awards.
