'A self-avowed citizen of the world, Residente professes to making music defined by his DNA. In this effort, he has traveled the world exploring the music and culture of the places he visits and incorporating them into his own unique sound. Regions featured in Residente's music include Siberia, Caucasus, China, Africa and Puerto Rico. Prior to his 2017 self-titled debut album as a solo artist, he released five studio albums with the band Calle 13 as its lead singer. In addition to the music awards he's won, Residente has also been awarded several humanitarian honors. These include the Ramón Emeterio Betances Medal for his work fighting for Puerto Rican freedom and identity, the Rodolfo Walsh Award from the National University of La Plata School of Journalism and Social Communication, the Amnesty International's Emissary of Awareness honor, the Nobel Peace Summit Award and the BMI Champion Award in recognition of both his music and philanthropic efforts. His live concerts are both inspiring and emotional as Residente often encourages his audiences to get involved in important causes.'

Born René Juan Pérez Joglar in Puerto Rico in 1978, Residente spent eight years studying art in addition to pursuing his musical interests. He helped found Calle 13, an alternative hip-hop group, in 2004. Along with performing in many music videos, Residente has directed six for the songs Somos Anormales, Desencuentro, Guerra, Sexo, Rap Bruto and Banana Papaya.
