The Portland Timbers are a professional soccer club based out of
Providence Park
in Oregon. A member of Major League Soccer's Western Conference, the Timbers have a long and storied history within the sport. The team is known for giving a consistently strong performance each season no matter who they go up against. The 2019 season is a great example of this as the Timbers placed sixth overall in the Western Conference with 14 wins. Taking to the field in their trademark green and yellow, the Timbers are always pushing to do better with the help of head coach Giovanni Savarese’s guidance and training. Whether they’re battling in the Cascadia Cup, the playoffs or any regular season game, the Portland Timbers do their best to entertain fans and work their way toward the top of the MLS rankings. ''You can get tickets to watch the Portland Timbers live and find the best variety of available seating options by shopping at StubHub. As the world's leading online ticket marketplace selling seats to some of the biggest sports, music, theater and other events each year, it's a great place to get a great price to the shows you love.'
'The Portland Timbers have existed in some form since 1975. As part of the North American Soccer League, the team competed until 1982 when it was forced to dissolve for financial reasons. In 1985, the Timbers saw a strong comeback, competing in the Western Soccer League with good results before dissolving once again due to the unsuccessful merger of the WSL and American Soccer League. The team saw yet another return in 2001 when it started playing as part of the United Soccer Leagues, a position it would hold until dissolving again in 2010 for the sake of joining Major League Soccer's Western Conference in 2011, the league the team continues to play in today.'
'The Portland Timbers placed sixth in the Western Conference during 2019. Their combined total of wins, losses and ties for both home and away games were as follows: 14 wins, 13 losses, seven ties. They scored 49 points over the season with an average of 1.44 points per game.'
'
Portland's arch rival is its neighbor to the north, Seattle. The
Seattle Sounders FC
and the Portland Timbers have been major adversaries for decades dating all the way back to the original North American Soccer League days, with some commentators even going so far as to call them the fiercest rivalry in the entire MLS. Additionally, the Timbers are also rivals with the
Vancouver Whitecaps
, another adversary from back in the early days of the team. All three teams compete annually in the Cascadia Cup.
''The Portland Timbers' head coach is currently Giovanni Savarese. He has held the position since 2017 and is the third non-interim coach of the MLS-era of the team.'
'There's plenty to do and see when attending a Portland Timbers game, especially for matches held at the team's home stadium. Fans are exceptionally passionate when it comes to supporting the Timbers. The Timbers Army fan group has been consistently growing, and a few members even trace their fandom all the way back to the team’s origins in 1975. Home games also have a wide selection of food you can pick up at the concessions stands around the park.'
