Plants and Animals roots date back to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Matthew Woodley and Warren Spicer jammed together in high school bands. They were introduced to Nic Basque at Concord University's music department. And soon the three young men evolved into the band Plants and Animals. They released their first full-length album, Parc Avenue, in February 2008 in Canada and the following month in the United States. Their second LP came out in April 2010, which was titled La La Land. The End of That, Plants and Animals' third album, was released in February 2012.
Plants and Animals received a number of accolades in their musical career. Plants and Animals' first full-length album, Parc Avenue, was nominated for the 2008 Polaris Music Prize and was also selected for a 2009 Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year. Additionally, the band was chosen for New Group of the Year. And their single, Bye Bye Bye, was included on season three episode 13 of TV's Chuck.
