The Philadelphia Union is part of a long tradition of soccer excellence, which stretches back to the early 20th century when the Bethlehem Steel F.C. won five of the first 15 US Open Cup trophies. Following a year-long campaign to secure an MLS expansion franchise in the city, the Union became a reality for the 2010 season, under the ownership of Keystone Sports and Entertainment. The club’s best seasons came in 2011 and 2019, when it made the conference semifinals. Philadelphia has also finished three times as the runner-up in the

US Open Cup

, the oldest soccer tournament in the United States. Though the Union could not secure the victory, it did push two of the finals match-ups into overtime. Forward Sebastien Le Toux, who played for the club between 2010 and 2011 and again between 2013 and 2016, is the all-time leading scorer with 50 goals and 50 assists in 175 games.
