Pepperdine University's Orange and Blue Waves have been pounding the courts since 1932. They have many conference titles under their belts, and this year promises to be an exciting season with second-time Head Coach Lorenzo Romar coming back. He is returning as head coach after some years spent away at other schools. The first Romar coaching tenure resulted in a markedly more successful program than previously, so the next several years will be interesting to experience with this strong leader. The
Firestone Fieldhouse
, which is the Waves' home venue, is an intimate setting to view the court action up close. Fans and others will appreciate the intense excitement during the games. To see your favorite team in the West, grab your Pepperdine Waves' basketball tickets today at StubHub.
''Lorenzo Romar returned as head coach for the Pepperdine Waves' basketball team for the 2018-19 season. He was formerly the head coach for the Pepperdine Waves for three years between 1996-97 and 1998-99. Romar's first season with the Waves was focused on building the program, but his next two seasons earned 17 and 19 wins, respectively. Afterward, he served for 15 years as the head coach for the University of Washington and then for one year as associate head coach for the University of Arizona. Over a career spanning 21 seasons through 2018-19, Romar has a career record of 391-284 overall and 42-44 in his three seasons with the Waves.'
'There have been many exemplary basketball players at Pepperdine. William Averitt (1970-1973) had two of the school's greatest seasons when he averaged 28.9 points as a sophomore and 33.9 points as a junior. As of 2019, he still holds the WCC record for points in a game and scoring averages for a season and career. Dane Suttle was the school's all-time scoring leader in points, assists, field goals, steals and games played for many years, and his total scoring of 1,701 still stands in 2019. Dana Jones was the 1993 WCC Player of the Year. Jones ranks No. 2 for a total scoring record of 1,677 points and No. 1 in total rebounds.'
'The Firestone Fieldhouse is the home of the Pepperdine Waves' basketball team. Opened in 1975, it's a multi-purpose facility that houses many other Pepperdine programs. Normal seating is a combined 1,800 retractable bleachers and 1,250 fixed seating. The floor was originally versa turf rubber but is now wooden. The floor area at the Firestone Fieldhouse is around 11,000 square feet.'

The biggest rival of the Pepperdine Waves is the
Loyola Marymount Lions'
basketball team. To make their long-standing rivalry even more intense, the schools began a series of point-earning games across various athletic school programs. The points accumulate over a specified academic period, and the winner earns the Pacific Coast Highway Cup. Wells Fargo is the sponsor. Points are awarded for home and neutral-site wins while championships and road wins and have different weights. As of 2018-19, Pepperdine leads 8-2 against the Loyola Marymount Lions for the PCH Cup.
''The Pepperdine Waves are in the West Coast Conference, which was formed in 1952 with five original member schools in the San Francisco Bay area. The original name for the conference was the California Basketball Association. Pepperdine joined in 1956, and the conference then had eight members and changed its name to the West Coast Athletic Conference. In 1989, the conference shortened its name to the West Coast Conference. As of 2019, the WCC has 10 members from the western coast of the U.S.'
