During the hockey season, you can catch Penscola's local professional ice hockey team, the Ice Flyers, at what is likely one of the few ice hockey arenas that is actually located minutes away from a beach. The SPHL President’s Cup Champions have been entertaining fans since the folding of the ECHL's Pensacola Ice Pilots. The name of the team has a double meaning in that it serves as a tribute to Pensacola's aviation heritage as well as being a nod to the team's original owner who played 11 seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers. Along with being champions, the team helps out with causes in their community while also bringing a competitive spirit to the ice. One example of these elements joining together was when they recently took on first-ranked
Fayetteville Marksmen
for an Autism Awareness charity game. In that game, they managed to dominate the other team in a 7-2 victory while also raising $25,229 for Autism Pensacola. At the home games, there are several great theme nights throughout the season. If you want to catch the Pensacola Ice Flyers in up-close ice-hockey action, get your tickets at StubHub.

The Pensacola Ice Flyers have had many rivalries throughout the franchise's history. Some of the most notable rivalries have been against the
Mississippi RiverKings
,
Mississippi Surge
, the
Huntsville Havoc
, the
Columbus Cottonmouths
and the
Louisiana IceGators
. Being the Pensacola Ice Flyers' nearest opponent, thereby having the most games against each other, the Louisiana IceGators are generally seen as the team's biggest rival.
''The head coach for the Pensacola Ice Flyers is Rod Aldoff, with John McLean serving as assistant coach to the team. John McLean was a goaltender for the Pensacola Ice Flyers prior to working as one of the coaching staff with the team.'
'There are several promotional theme nights at the home games of the Pensacola Ice Flyers throughout the season. Some of them are Small Dog Race Night, Military Appreciation Night, Teddy Bear Toss and Veterans' Appreciation Night.'
'The Pensacola Bay Center opened its doors in 1985 and has been host to some of the biggest stars in entertainment as well as being the home to the Pensacola Ice Flyers. It is a 10,000-seat arena that features over 20,000 square feet of event space. As far as concessions go, everything from standard-game items like hot dogs and pretzels is available all the way to more specialized items like Frito pies and shaved ice. For those who are going for the VIP Room experience, there is a regularly changing menu provided by Savor. When planning on parking for one of the Pensacola Ice Flyers home games, make sure to bring cash. There is easy parking adjacent to the venue that is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.'
'Each team in the Southern Professional Hockey League is allowed to protect 13 players that were under contract during the prior hockey season. This means that those players cannot be signed by other teams in the league. Some recent protected players in the Ice Flyers have been Brett D’Andrea, Joseph Drapluk, Tanner Froese, Ryan Marcuz and Eddie Matsushima.'
