Originally founded to give the WAC an automatic bowl game for its champions when the Fiesta Bowl ended its affiliation, the Holiday Bowl began in 1978. The
Brigham Young Cougars
represented the WAC, playing in the first seven consecutive games, and held the title for the most appearances in the Holiday Bowl. Current affiliations are with the Pac-12 and Big Ten Conferences. The sponsor is the San Diego County Credit Union, making the official name the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl. , from 1982 to 1997 and the Qualcomm Stadium from 1997 to 2017 before reaching its current moniker in 2018. It has a seating capacity of 70,561 for football games and 67,544 for baseball games. It is the only stadium ever to host both the Super Bowl and World Series in the same year —1998.

The San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl pits the two best teams from the Pac-12 Conference and the Big Ten Conference against each other for an exciting and edge-of-your-seat experience. You’ll find a sold-out stadium of college football fans clad in the two teams’ colors. The halftime show is sponsored by Dr. Pepper and the Stater Bros. There will be marching bands, pageants and a firework display. There is also a “Tuition Throw” contest between the third and fourth quarters where fans try to throw passes into a giant Dr. Pepper can in order to win $100,000 in tuition.
The Technology Integration Group VIP Tailgate party is the place to be prior to the game. It is an exclusive party located in the F–1 section of the SDCCU parking area. A ticket purchase allows access to an all-you-can-eat buffet and beverages including wine, beer and champagne. You will find private performances by cheerleaders, mascots and team marching bands as well as a DJ. There is also a photo booth, so you can take home memories of your experience. You will also find Dexcom’s New Year’s Eve Pre-Game Party with drink specials, including $5 wine and beer.
