Oregon isn't the biggest U.S. state nor the most populous, but its cultural calendar is bursting at the seams. The Beaver State features top-notch music and sports all year around, and Portland, its biggest city, is a West Coast cultural nucleus. Live entertainment abounds in Salem, Eugene and Gresham as well. From major league sports to rock gigs, Oregon has it all.

Oregon's music scene is just as eclectic as its population. Rock 'n' roll, jazz, country, pop - all of these genres shape the state's collective soundtrack. Like other cities in the Pacific Northwest, Portland has long been associated with the punk rock movement of the '80s and '90s. More recently, electronic dance music has filled the state's airwaves.

Music festivals in Oregon are perennially popular. MusicfestNW happens every fall in Portland and features a roster of alternative and electronic acts. The Waterfront Blues Festival, which also takes place in Portland, is the biggest celebration of blues west of the Mississippi River.

Portland has two major league sports teams: the Portland Trail Blazers and Portland Timbers. The Oregon Ducks - the University of Oregon's athletic teams, who are based in Eugene - compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I level. Oregon sports tickets are popular throughout the year.
